the bob loblaw law blog

no.. its not really the bob loblaw law blog but try saying it out loud. its kind of amusing. don't have any clue as to what the hell i'm law blogging about? look into the show "arrested development" or as my friend chris calls it "the best show you've never seen" you won't meet bob loblaw until season 3, but getting there is complete fun.
i'm finally back online via the imac and not my iphone.. arcade fire happily thumping through my bitchin speakers.. have you ever tried blogging via iphone? the auto correct is awesome, but trying to tap that much out on such a tiny keyboard is a bit annoying. i tried going to use steves computer, but i got in front of his PC and kind of hated it immediately. it may be a corny stereotype, but once you go mac... you know the rest. i've been converted, swayed, programmed, brainwashed.. whatever you want to call it.. i'm there. the next "save for" wil be a cheap video camera so i can ichat with my sisters and give skype a try.

speaking of sisters, crystal is blooming. she's due to have little mr. mason in july, and i can't wait to be an aunt. (while i'm already technically and aunt, i don't get along very well with my oldest sister, and so have very little communication with my niece and nephew) crystal and sean have decided to call their little papoose-in-progress mason.. amber, crystal and i like to giggle about how we hope he has red hair like crystal does. i've been sewing up a storm as a gift for him, and i can't wait to see her again soon.

i've actually been sewing quite a bit lately. mothers day came this year, and i was feeling very low and mopey. i had originally decided that i didn't want to do anything but be left alone that day, but steve didn't like my solution to avoiding the day like that so he suggested we go see a movie. he took me on a date to see iron man 2 which was really pretty friggin awesome. i <3 robert downey jr. and jon favreau. after that, my plan was to go back home and do what i had been doing before. but steve didn't think that was a very good plan either. he asked me if there was anything i was interested in. i had thought about going home with him to get my car and travel back to saugus (where we were, at the movie theater.) to check out the fabric store for a quilting book and maybe some fabric. he said that he would take me since we were already there. i always feel bad asking him to come with me to joanns.. he's a guy and defintiely not interested in fabric. i puttered around and found a book full of simple patterns and some fabric quarters. on the way home, i flipped through the book and chose the super easy pinwheel pattern. once i got home, i started cutting and sewing and ended up with 8 squares. these are them:

i started looking at all of the other fabric i'd already had, and did some figuring.. then 8 squares turned into 12. and then while taking a break i was eyeballing even more of the fabric i had.. i did some figuring and after that, since i was on a roll 12 turned into 16, which ended up looking like this: (layed out on the white paisley fabric i picked out to piece it all together and use as a really neutral backround)

the original plan was to make 2 (which would have made 16, if i had stuck to the original 8 blocked color scheme), but if i'd doubled them up with 16, i would have had 32.. um.. no and yikes. so i ended up just sticking with the 16 blocks i ended up with.. which meant that i had a TON of quarters left over. so, rather that stick them back into a bin that would undoubtedly lurk around my craft closet until the end of time, i decided to cut them in half and use them as a border to the blocks, maybe to experiment and spice things up. once everything was sewed together with strips of the white paisley fabric, then edged with the rainbow of quarters, and then edged AGAIN in the white paisley stuff.. it ended up looking like this:

16 colorful but somewhat uneven squares, that i'm going to call the mothers day quilt. i didn't finish it on mothers day, but steve and the project ended up pulling me out of a definite funk.. in short, i am in love with this quilt. i'm really excited to finish it and pick up the fabric to back it and stuff it. i know that this will be the really hard part of the project, but i'm jazzed to finish it. i've never finished a project this big before. :)

besides working on quilts, i've been temping like crazy, looking for a job, and trying to get the house finished. all 3 are proving to be moving very slowly. tomorrow i am headed back out to western MA for my cousin krystals baby shower. after that i will most likely go to the springfield house and do some more painting and see if i can survive in the house. i haven't been there since it's been cleaned, so i don't really know what my breathing situation will be. if it's good, then i will most likely stay and paint for a couple of days.. i suppose it all depends.. but thats the goal. i definitely want to take some more photos of the house and at least haul my butt up on that ladder to paint the upper hallway. i've been dreading it and really just want to get it all over with. *gulp*

well.. i have alot more sewing to finish krystals baby quilt.. so, more blogging later, now that i have my imac back :)
