i'm wheezy and coughing. i know this feeling. i feel like i have a brick on my chest. i know that if i still feel this way by tomorrow night.. i've earned myself a trip to the hospital.
about 5 years ago when i first moved here i worked as a dog walker. during one particularly rainy winter... a span of about 3 days after spending the day walking in the rain with a cold i started getting this same feeling. i spent days in bed and after nearly not being able to breathe i took myself to the ER where i was told i had pneumonia. after that, i was also told i am apt to get it again.. and i think now may be that time.
boo. i hate going to the doctors.

scan... *beep*
it's a rainy crappy afternoon here in boston.. but it was still fun. steve and i went to register at crate and barrel. most of the men i've seen have no interest in wedding registering because it's mostly about what the woman wants for the house. i disagree with this. steve and i will be sharing a home together.. so he should have input too. we managed to turn it into something fun. we still haven't found a china set that we agree on yet though.. boo. we did find lots of interesting gadgets and cookbooks there. i didn't think he would enjoy it as much as he did.
speaking of weddings... i tried on the dress for the girls at hubba hubba. much to my pleasant surprise it's fitting MUCH looser, loose enough to where i am going to have to get it altered. when i first got it, it was tight, almost uncomfortably so. going to the gym and different eating habits have made a huge world of difference. if i keep up what i'm doing now.. and start kayaking in the spring and hiking at camp in the summer.. AND order the custom undergarment from marvelous mayhem... i'm going to be golden. i'm getting more and more excited just thinking about it!

25 random things survey... if you haven't seen one before you probably shouldn't be on facebook.

2. i almost always have equal packets on me.
3. i also collect and customize vinyl toys. it's a very expensive habit.
4. most of the clothing i have is green.

7. i am just a smidge above legally deaf
8. i've had the same car for 10 years now.
9. i listen to christmas music all year round. when it's not the appropriate holiday music time i usually hide the christmas music under a new name on my ipod so i don't get teased.

11. people have told me that i am an excellent story reader. alot of the people that have told me that are under the age of 6.
12. i looooove board games and it depresses me that i usually have nobody to play them with.
13. i have 2 metal pins in my foot. i'm clumsy.

19. i was named after my great grandmother ellienne. she died on march 26th many, many, MANY years before i was born. my mom didn't know this until my grandfathers death. she found out about it at the cemetery when he was buried with his mum. (i was born on march 26th)
20. i have 15 holes in my ears only. the thought of piercing anything else gives me the creeps.
21. for the laramee side of my family... i am relatively short.
22. i am the only person in my entire family (laramee side) to have green eyes. except for my grandmother everyone else has brown.
23. i am an iwhore. i pretty much love anything apple, yet i still use a PC.
24. i have laundry OCD. if things aren't washed a certain way, with the right detergent, then dried at the right setting and then folded a certain way.. i will start all over. it's really very silly.
25. i love home facials. i also love natural recipes for home facials. the best one yet included oatmeal, honey, and natural yogurt. one tube of mint julep mud mask almost never lasts me a whole month, and i must have about a zillion different face cleansers.

the roadtrip that was so memorable, it was mentioned in a wedding toast
valentines day, 2009. i'm on my way home from a busy early afternoon at hubba hubba and i decided to stop in harvard square because i still didn't have anything to give to stephen as a valentines day gift. after i found my gift for him in newbury comics ("the dark knight" on blu-ray and a collection of "the watchmen" comics) i also looked for a new bag. (i love bags... LOVE them) i didn't find one at newbury comics, so on my way down the ramp in the garage, i stopped at hootenanny. like NC, they also have fabulous bags. while wandering around in the store i heard "hey, i know you!". to my very pleasant surprize it was christine. a blast from my past.
i met her during "The Roadtrip". it will be forever immortalized in my mind because it was a chance and a life changing experience. the last time i wrote about it, was in a journal which i kept all of the show tickets, setlists, and memories from the concerts i went to. since that journal was lost in the allston incident, i'm blogging about it now to try and recapture the amazing memories from The Roadtrip.
i believe it was 2000-2001(i think? this is why i had it written in the journal... i can't remember things), i was in college and just starting to get into the sheila divine. i was listening to their music and playing them on my radio show pretty regularly, and i was also starting to read and communicate with people on their message board. it was announced that there would be 2 shows in new york city and in asbury park. there was some talk about people carpooling down and seeing the shows. feeling slightly adventurous, i offered up my minivan as a form of traveling together. before i knew it.. there were 5 of us set to make the trip. rob, peter, christine, and mike. i had never met any of them. christine and mike were roomates, and i can't remember if rob and peter had known each other or not... the plan was for them to drive from their homes in the boston area out to springfield where they would leave their car in my moms driveway. we would all hop into my van drive to NYC and spend the night then go to NJ, then come home. all without ever having met each other.
i decided to make the plans, then tell my mother. i was a slightly naive and gullible girl from western MA... to say my mother was angry was an understatement. she screamed and carried on for a good week about how i was going to get murdered and pick pocketed in NYC and that these people from the bowels of the internet were going to kill me, steal the minivan and leave me for dead in a new york alley. after much reassurance, and the promise that their car would be left in our driveway along with their full names and addresses... she relaxed enough to commence lecturing me at every chance she got about how to stay safe and identify crazy murderers in NYC.
the day finally came when the 4 of them arrived in my driveway. it was awesome. i felt like i was being set free in some weird way. almost like it was my first adult decision. the drive down seemed to take forever, and maneuvering our way into new york city to find the soho suites with only mapquest directions was terrifying. (at that time, mapquest was near brand new) i remember being worried that my car was going to get either towed or stolen. we found the hotel, and set off on foot to explore NYC and find dinner before the show. i had never been in a big city without a chaperon or adults to tell me where, when, and what to do. it was amazing.
i think we ended up at a pizza place... and i remember walking through some really weird neighborhoods to find the warsaw, which was i think in brooklyn. it was a neat old theater that had been converted into a bar and place for rock music. i don't remember much else from that night, but i remember the next day. we sight-saw in NYC. the picture that i had framed for so long was a shot of rob, peter, mike and christine standing next to each other, their backs to me. they were leaning on a fence looking out at the statue of liberty. they didn't even know i was taking the picture. it will probably always be a photo i will remember... i think along with the journal, it was one of the hardest things to lose in allston.
after sight seeing, we got in the car and headed for asbury park. we talked about the boss and how he was from there... about life in general. that trip also opened my eyes to the world of indie rock music. asbury park wasn't nearly as memorable as NYC, but the drive home seemed to last forever. it was the first time i ever let anyone else drive the minivan. it was nice to be able to sleep in the back on the long ride home.
while talking to christine at hootenanny, she was shocked to find out i still had the minivan. i also told her about how rob mentioned all of us in his wedding toast at his wedding this past summer. it seems that it wasn't just an eye opening trip for me.. if i remember correctly, he mentioned how the trip opened his eyes to NYC where he met his wife and now lives. it's definitely not often i get to see the 4 of them.. but when i do it's ALWAYS good times and get to re-live The Roadtrip in my mind a little. if it weren't for them, i probably wouldn't have ended up in boston.

spoony
i went out to get some pet food today. i got up expecting that it would be chilly and windy out. when i opened the door, i was completely surprised. this is the weather i live for. just like fall, it's the perfect temperature out, and everthing is changing for the next season. it's perfection. i couldn't get home fast enough to open all the windows of the house. i'm waiting for that truly wonderful sunny spring day where i can take my art kit down to davis square and paint outside again. i love it.
it's also nice to get the windows open so the cats have something to do besides get into trouble. it's at about this time of year where they really start to get on my nerves. with the open windows, they sit in them and can smell and watch the outside world. i call it cat TV.
during one of my trips to magpie to drop off some owls and pins, i started checking out the store. they sell amazing little odds and ends, and i found in a little saucer... spoon rings. it's something i saw as a high school kid and thought was an amazing thing to do with an old spoon. all the times i've ever seen them, they never fit me. i have bear paw hands... i live with it. i started looking them over hoping i could find the right one. this time... after about 10ish years of looking, i found one! it was also a score because it was sterling silver, which means my finger isn't going to turn green. damn my sensitive skin!
this is the find..

the other reason i absolutely love it is becuase it's antique-y looking with the filigree and little flowers. i'm so happy i finally found one. steve thinks i've lost my crackers to get excited about an old spoon. he's a jerk :)

bunny diaries: vol 3
this is pheffer. she is only about 3 months old. you might think that the pair of them are impossible to tell apart, but along with the subtle differences in their appearances, their personalities are miles apart. already pheffer is just topping 12 pounds. her head is bigger than my fist. her back feet are nearing 8 inches long. her ears are widening and getting longer.. it seems almost daily. we had put up a baby gate to confine them to the kitchen so they didn't chew and make a mess of everything in the house. we had the gate for about 2 weeks before they figured out that they were big enough to jump it. they don't fit into their cage anymore and so i'm trying to get rid of my washing machine so i can turn that little room into a room just for them. they go through about 7lbs of food a week. they also eat fresh veggies, a few pieces of pasta, and almost a whole bag of timothy hay a week. along with yogurt drops and whatever fruit they can "cute" out of steve and i. they are still super cuddly and wonderful... more pics to come.
i've been too busy to blog, but will try to write more later this afternoon.

do you smell something burning?
it was quite a busy weekend.
my mom is still in the hospital. she's stable, but has had some pretty scary moments. she's currently fighting a staph infection. when i went to visit her, there was a sign on her door saying that in order to see her you had to wear a face mask, plastic coveralls, and rubber gloves. apparently the stomach virus i had last week has a name. it's called the norvo (spelling might be off) virus. it can't be killed by hand sanitizer, is EXTREMELY contagious, and you can get it more than once. she was being roomed with someone who had the virus, which is why you had to wear the protection to see her. obviously, she doesn't need that to contend with along with a staph infection.
when i wasn't at the hospital, i was at camp bonnie brae, helping to repair some of the damage caused by the ice storm back in december. after talking to wayne, it looks like there is going to be plenty of work to do up until camp starts. this weekend the goal was to annihalate 3 piles of ice covered brush by burning them. the job might have been warm, but it certainly wasn't easy. however... it was damn fun because i got to use a flamethrower to do it. it wasn't a huge device, but just the fact that i got to use something that spews fire was an adventure for me. we also got to use and recycle peanut oil from waynes turkey fryer. it was alot of fun. all in all we ended up getting rid of all 3 piles.
saturday night i ended up spending the evening with one of my campers troops. it was kind of an eye opening experience to teenage girls today. i was playing cards with them and the way some of them were talking kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. i ended up leaving the card game to go hang out with the troop leaders. yet another indicator that i am in fact turning 27 next month. when talking to wayne the next day, i believe i actually used the phrase "kids these days". ugh.
my saturday night sleeping was less than ideal. during the summer when sleeping in an empty building, you can hear rustleings of animals and other people outside. but in the winter the silence is almost deafening, and the dark is so dark that you can't tell if your eyes are open or shut. i woke up a few times during the night feeling like all the hairs on the back of my neck were standing strait up. i ended up plugging my earbuds into my ears and turning on my ipod. after that i slept like a baby.
i spent sunday night chatting with my mom. it was good conversation stuff. we talked about life and current events. it was so nice to be able to talk to her truthfully and not have to be careful what i was saying because of audrey or anyone else being around.
after that, i came home. i climbed into bed. shortly after that, steve came to bed too. after about 10 minutes of lying there.. he asked if i smelled something burning. i didn't. so we got up to check out the house. while in the kitchen, he walked by me.. stopped.. then came over to me and smelled my hair. after standing in the fire for 2 days, my hair and sweatshirt held the smell of the burning brush. i loooovvveeee that smell. it killed me to wash my hair today.
